COURSE DESCRIPTION

Want to become an ACA Certified Kayak Instructor and teach kayaking with Colorado Whitewater? This course is for competent whitewater kayakers who want to teach others how to kayak. Instructor Candidates will learn industry standards for teaching kayaking and are assessed throughout the course on teaching, technical knowledge, and rescue ability. CW Instructor Responsibilities

This course is normally $650 rather than the $50 we are charging. We expect every person who takes this class to volunteer to teach lessons for the club. All participants are expected to volunteer the following amounts for at least 3 out of the 4 years their certification is active:
  1. At least FOUR 2-hour pool classes over the winter and spring
  2. Attend Training Camp as an instructor, usually a full weekend in mid-May
  3. Maintain their certification: ACA and SEIC dues paid each year, CPR and First Aid certifications up to date (we offer free re-cert classes to instructors)

What Is Included?

  • ACA Kayak Instructor Training 

  • Campsite (Radium)

  • ACA Level 1-4 Instructor Certification - pending successful completion

Prerequisites

  • 18-years of age or older 

  • No prior instructional experience required 

  • Competent class-III kayaker

  • Consistent roll 

  • Must be an ACA member

  • Current ACA Safety Education & Instruction Committee (SEIC) dues must be paid to hold any level Instructor Certification

  • Upper Colorado River. Pumphouse/Radium/Rancho Del Rio area. Exact location TBD.
