This introductory course is comprised of 3 separate sessions to provide a safe, gentle introduction into the world of whitewater kayaking. The classes progress through topics over the course of three 2-hour sessions in the warm pool and conclude in early May by applying the same skills outside on a lake with 2 additional days on an easy river (Flat Water/Moving Water Weekend). This progression over the course allows you to comfortably build on your skills and gain confidence by the time you kayak a river for the first time.
The beginner curriculum is based on well-established ACA standards that assume no previous experience in a kayak. You will learn about boats, essential gear, basic paddle strokes, river safety, and we'll introduce you to the kayak roll.
