This introductory course is comprised of 4 separate sessions to provide a safe, gentle introduction into the world of whitewater kayaking. The classes progress through topics over the course of two 2 hour sessions in the warm pool and conclude in early May by applying the same skills outside on a lake (third day) and (fourth day) an easy river (Flat Water/Moving Water Weekend). This progression over the course allows you to comfortably build on your skills and gain confidence by the time you kayak a river for the first time.
The beginner curriculum is based on well-established ACA standards that assume no previous experience in a kayak. You will learn about boats, essential gear, basic paddle strokes, river safety, and we'll introduce you to the kayak roll.
Cost: $180 course fee plus $9.75 pool admission for each pool session. Includes two 3-hour pool sessions, the flat-water/moving water weekend and rental equipment (boat, spray skirt, and paddle) for the two pool sessions.Class Times & Dates:
