A paddler since 1991, Elizabeth Austen received her ACA whitewater kayaking instructor certification in 2007.
Elizabeth was first introduced to whitewater when she lived in New York City and did not own a vehicle: not the optimal circumstances to learn to paddle. Without any instruction or a peer group, she was a sporadic and sometimes terrified class 2 boater until 2003 when she moved to Colorado and joined Colorado Whitewater Association. The club provided her with the instruction and peer group she had been missing and led her to love the sport and the whitewater community. She was part of the core group who started the CW Boating Betties group for women boaters, and enjoys empowering people to build their on-river confidence and skills. Elizabeth is a river runner who enjoys paddling all over the front range. If you attend Training Camp you will see her in action as the organizer of this, her favorite CW event. “Training Camp is so much fun, it’s better than Christmas!”
